Snowdog on Tour
It isn’t as easy as you may think to move a Snowdog.
I spent this morning with our photographer Liz and Sparky the Snowdog. The Snowdogs by the Sea campaign is to raise funds for local Brighton charity The Martlets, and Vervate is helping out with the photographs as official photographers. It is smashing to be supporting such an amazing organisation as The Martlets, and the campaign is a really good, fun one involving businesses from the whole city. This morning was all about taking photographs of Sparky at just a few of the nearly 40 different businesses that have signed up to sponsor a Snowdog. I took my mobile along to take a few pictures to document it.
The very lovely James from Streamline and JMWPR drove the Martlets van to take Sparky between businesses. I think he started to think Sparky was real looking at this shot….! “Come on Sparky, walkies……”
Sparky was particularly slippy and more awkward than heavy to carry. Three of us – Sarah and Naomi from The Martlets and myself, got gradually increasingly covered in glitter from his ears and tail as we carried him from the van to the various businesses in the city. We did manage to persuade a few helpers to carry Sparky at various points – here are the lovely men from Dockerills:
The idea is to give the businesses some images to start promoting the Campaign before they have had their artist’s put the design on their individual Snowdog. When you see one of these photographs, please do support the campaign and give the businesses a shout out.
It always brings a big smile to my face when I am out with one of the photographers. It isn’t easy to get the right shots – they need to be taken very quickly, and then to race a la Anneka Rice (remember that?!) between businesses. Thankfully Liz didn’t dress like Anneka in full on lycra but we did do a lot of running round town whilst Sparky was chauffeured around.
I still find myself, after nearly 5 years of working with our photographers, going, “Oh, yeah…I see…I didn’t think of that..” to myself as they confidently direct the shoot and skilfully direct proceedings.
Here are some of the businesses we visited. Can I just say also at this point, the weather was rubbish (*holds warm cuppa tightly*).
